You Can Go Home Again

by kadi on July 20, 2010

I’ve been homesick for approximately 3.5 years. Not ironically, that is how long we’ve lived where we do now. Our current city of residence is not a bad place, per se. It just has never felt like home to me, physically or emotionally.

Physically speaking, I’m more of a rural girl at heart with a streak of city slicker in my blood. I like to live in small towns but be close enough to travel to LA for social events.  When we lived in Riverside, it offered me the best of both worlds. My neighborhood was small, situated on a little hill, speckled with Liquid Amber trees . The school was excellent, the neighbors were friendly and the Mission Inn (one of my favorite places in the world) was five minutes away. Leaving was difficult but necessary at the time. My mind could grasp the reasons, but my  heart never healed.

Emotionally, this has been a place of bad memories. So much has happened while living here and to be quite honest, not much of it has been good. I know that you cannot run away from your problems and I do not intend to. As a whole, we do not have many problems. We have been through some tough situations while living here and have made it through them all. Never the less, memories of it all still linger between these walls and it has created an almost palpable negative energy. I’ve decided to write down all of the bad things we have been through and burn them in this fireplace before we leave. I refuse to bring it with us when we move.

For the next two weeks, this house will be filled with boxes, the kids will be buzzing with excitement and my to do list will be jam packed with items to check off. The moving van will be here on August 1st and we will say goodbye to this dwelling for good. We are going home.

So you guys are moving back to Riverside? Pat and I lived there for a year, it was the same year we became pregnant with Sarah… I loved living there but the entire time I spent sick in bed or throwing up in the bathroom…. but we were just down the street from Tyler Mall, which was pretty awesome!

I want to move back to Redlands bad… but Pat wants to stick it out another year in Lake Arrowhead, which means I have to deal with the crappy snow another season.. I HATE SNOW!!!

We had the same problem but it required a move several states away. Now we’re happy as can be (well, not really, but we like where we are a million times more.) I know people say bloom where you are planted, but sometimes plants just wither no matter what. Good for you for getting out of a place that just isn’t right.
